One night some friends came to my office to discuss personal growth and spirituality. We decided to sit and meditate. It was not guided. During my meditation, I found myself being in a cloud or fog. There was nothing to see. There was nothing to hear. There was nothing to feel. There was nothing. It was very peaceful. After a little while I was bored and ready to do something.
Could that be why the universe was created? Was the Creator bored?
I was playing computer solitaire. In my screen, I could see the refection of my son playing Super Mario. He was really into it. As he moved the joystick, he was Mario. I doubt that he had any awareness of himself at all. He was focused on the game.
I put the two experiences together. I began talking about the Creator being bored and creating a game it could play by being us. Think of the analogy to my son. He was no longer Matt. He was Mario.
When we create a game, what do we do? First, we must create a field or place to play. If we want to play football, we need to create a football field. Next, we need rules for the game. We decide how to play and what is allowed and not allowed. Finally, we need players.
I still like to think of life as a game. Many do not like it. “My life is NOT a game. My life is serious.” Games can be very difficult. Football players can be injured or killed.
The Bible talks about a similar process. First the field was created. Earth was added. The sun and moon were added. Life forms were added. Humans were the last part of creation and were created in God’s image.
God is enjoying an experience through you. It is being you. While being you, it has forgotten who it really is. God limits itself to the field, just as Matt was limited to Mario’s experience on the computer.
Want to have a different experience? Stop playing the game. Stop your mind. Focus on an idea. When you catch yourself thinking about something else, go back to the idea. You just did what I call a spiritual push-up. As spirit, you took control of your brain and made it do what you wanted.
Practice doing spiritual push-ups. When times are difficult, and your mind is troubled, do a spiritual push-up. Separate yourself from your difficulty. Remember who you really are and ask for help from your Spiritual Father. See how life changes.
