Is America Still a Nation of Ideas?
Discuss ideas not racism or gender politics.
Over time, truth will win. In fact, truth often wins pretty quickly. Last week we had former President Obama scolding black males for not showing Vice President Harris the same enthusiasm they had shown him. He indicated it was because she is a woman. Is that the truth?
Is it possible that black men can actually look at their situation after four years of Biden/Obama and compare to four years of Trump and believe they were better off under Trump? Can they vote based on ideas rather than gender or race?
While in junior college, I was talking with a student from Iran. He said, “Your history is so different from ours.” I asked, “What do you mean?” “Well, do you know the Gettysburg address?” I said, “Yes.” “Well, that is the difference,” he explained. “Your history is all about ideas. Ours is just this year that country kicked our ass so two years later we kicked theirs. No ideas are involved.”
Are we still a society of ideas? If so, tell us what ideas you favor. Do not tell us to vote for someone based on gender or race.
Vice President Harris has said that she owns a Glock pistol. That is a defensive weapon. She wants to outlaw the AR 15 rifles. They are used as hunting rifles in addition to being defensive weapons. According to FBI statistics, 6368 murders occurred with handguns in 2019 and only 364 occurred with rifles. Harris wants to outlaw the type of gun that she does not own but is involved in far fewer murders than the type she does own. Does she want to save lives? Does she want us to be able to defend ourselves? Or is she just wanting to pass a feel-good law that will do little to nothing? What is the truth?
How much is a vote worth? Trump talks about tax cuts. Harris talks about giving people money to start businesses. Are they both just trying to buy votes? What are the ideas involved? What is fair?
Cutting taxes only helps people who are paying taxes. For most Americans, it will put more money in the demand side of the economy and may result in increasing inflation. Giving money to people to start a business helps those who have an idea for starting a business. If the result is more competition for goods and services, it may drive down inflation. If the business does not know how to run a business, the money will be short lived.
Those are just a few ideas. There are many more to be discussed. Have a discussion about ideas and not racism and gender.
