I walked into Costco in Vancouver, a few months ago. I saw a 2-foot square panel to cover walls. The panel had wood slats that were separated to show a black background. The panel was also designed to suppress sound. I bought enough to cover a wall in my home office. I thought it might look good as a backdrop for videos and calls.
As soon as I used it for a practice video, I knew it wasn’t going to work. Two weeks ago, I attended a meeting of Goldilocks Revolution and was told I looked like I was in jail. I started thinking about what I could do differently.
My office is about 100 square feet. I have a couple of bookcases that I considered giving away. I wanted to keep the books, so that didn’t make much sense. I had an old-style computer desk and a stand-up desk. I decided to let the computer desk go. That freed up about 20 square feet.
It went amazingly well. I emptied the desk. Moved things around and took pictures of it. I posted it on Craigslist. Then I took it apart and put it on the front porch. Today it has a new home.
Yesterday, I tried using a wall with a dormer window in it as my backdrop. It was just too weird. I have a frame for a backdrop. I found black backdrop drapes on Amazon. The truck pulled up to deliver the drapes as the truck left with the desk. Great timing!
Looks like it will work pretty well.
Some people refuse to grow and change. Being flexible is one of the best qualities you can develop. However, as the wall panel proved, what looks like it might work well may not. Just move on and take the next step.
