The Weekly Update
Something new this week - The Weekly Update.
I get tired of constant emails from the same sources. Perhaps you do too. The Weekly Update will give my thoughts for the week and links to posts you haven’t seen yet. This is an experiment. Let me know what you think.
This week’s events:
Army celebrates 250 years. Saturday, June 14, 2025
A parade marking the U.S. Army’s 250 years has been labeled “The Trump Parade”. Although the Biden administration approved a military festival to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Army, it has been labeled the “Trump Parade.” It is certainly in Trump’s personality to make something bigger. It is a coincidence that the parade fell on Trump’s birthday.
It seemed like a waste of money to me. I do find it interesting how some people were triggered by the event.
On the same day, an estimated 5 million (total of all groups) people gathered for “No Kings” protests. The event was quite successful. The U.S. still has no kings.
The Goldilocks Revolution was kicked off Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
I was pleased to be invited to meet with a group to launch a movement to change political discourse. The group is led by Rick Raddatz. Rick has been working on this for many years. I first became involved four or five years ago.
The idea is that a government the governs too much is tyranny. A government that governs too little is anarchy. We want a Goldilocks government that governs just right.
Rick’s original ideas were called Pentanomics. I read the book and thought it was genius. I began teaching it and he invited me to be part of the inner circle. I’ll be writing about it more in the future.
Watch a video and download Rick’s ebook.
Other stuff I’m up to.
Last week, Mandy (my wife) and I drove to Kelowna, B.C. to attend the wedding ceremony of our nephew. It was a beautiful ceremony. We had a great time.
Tuesday, I helped my neighbor transport food for people who need it. About twice a week we go to a warehouse. We collect food and take it to a church for distribution. Along the way, he said, “Perhaps Musk will just use his money and pay everything off, so we’ll all be okay.” I was surprised. He’s a bright guy. He’s been trained in finance. I said, “Musk is worth 440 billion dollars. We’re spending close to 1.2 trillion dollars in interest. Musk could only pay for a few months of interest.” He thought about that for a bit. Then said, “How did we get here.” That is the question we should all be asking.
Mandy and I bought a storage shed from Costco. We have a shed but no garage. We have a two-car carport that is always looking pretty cluttered. The shed fitts in the carport and is helping us get organized.
I’ve also began a process of organizing my office. If you want to be more productive, one of the best things you can do is be organized. When Ben, our second oldest son, joined the Carpenters’ Union, the first thing he had to have was a tool belt. He always knows where his hammer, nails, tape measure, etc. are. They are on his belt. Compare that to me trying to construct anything. I spend half my time looking for where I left my hammer.
Posts this week:
Part 5. What Everybody Ought to Know about Religion
This post focuses on Buddhism. Some claim it is not a religion because they don’t believe in a God or gods. I explain and give my thoughts.
Part 5. What Everybody Ought to Know about Economics
Applying the ideas of supply and demand to the labor market is the focus of this post. Is minimum wage a good idea? Are there other ways to help lower income people make more money? The answers are in that post.
Hope you enjoy the posts and have a great week!!
