While the news media seems to be anointing President Biden and Former President Trump as our only choices, many of us (perhaps most) are hoping for an alternative. The two-party system is broken. There has never been a better time for a third party.
I understand those who didn’t like Trump’s attacks on individuals. I understand those who simply dislike the man. Some think Trump’s tax policies benefited the wealthy too much. I enjoyed the following:
1. While so many were busy attacking the man, we had no new wars around the globe.
2. The economy was improving, until Covid.
3. Wages were going up, until Covid.
4. The standard deduction for income tax went up, helping the poorest in America.
5. Government regulation was becoming more streamlined.
On the other hand, I understand those that dislike Biden. Like Trump, some simply dislike the man. Some see his border policies as being problems. In fact, even Biden is now claiming he is going to get tougher on border. Two new wars have broken out in Biden’s first term. We’ve had a big push of government spending that has propelled inflation. Government regulations have become more complicated. Finally, Covid under Biden has been no better than under Trump. I have enjoyed the following:
1. I still have hope that infrastructure spending will be helpful.
2. Wages have improved since the Covid low.
I understand that many Trump supporters believe the last election stolen. The last election was unusual to say the least. They want a rematch and to do less is seen as a big win for the Deep State.
However, I’m tired of polarizing politics. I can remember when both Republicans and Democrats had moderates in their parties and could work together. I’m ready for a third party – a centrist party.
I just read an article about a possible Joe Manchin run. I would welcome the opportunity to vote for him or Nikki Haley. It is time for the center to take over.
Action: Think about policy AND temperament. Question your beliefs in both parties. Look for evidence that you might be wrong. Think of good things that have happened during the administration (Trump or Biden) that you dislike.
